Success can be cherished only when it is backed with hours of efforts & struggle to achieve it. It is not just the victory which is important, it is the history behind the victory which makes it all the more rewarding. Is there something like overnight success under the sun?

Famous Bollywod star Hritik Roshan made his debut success with the movie Kaho Na Pyar Hai. The movie pulled huge footfalls with exceptional reviews and ratings as also achieved a record revenue collection. This was not just a successful movie but a super duper hit film in the history of India. If there was a stress barometer to read family stress, the mercury would have shot up very high these days because a lot of examination borne stress is showing in families. Where there are children, there ought to be schools and where there are schools, examinations are must! Come March – April and most of the schools in India shall be conducting the final / yearly evaluation examinations.

Most of the students are worried about the exams. They go through phases of sleepless nights or peace less sleep. They don’t feel like eating well and constantly keep feeling irritable. Irony is that their parent as well experiences almost similar symptoms. To add to the impact they are emotionally stressed too! Students are worried because they have to “face” the examinations and their parents are bothered about their performance.

Students are the only ones who actually are aware on their level of preparations for the examinations. Some students may have well prepared and would be in the final lap of revision while many others would not be so lucky! But the common factor for both the category of students, those who are prepared for examinations and those not prepared for exams, is that “stress” attacks all of them!

These are the days when students spend most of the time at home preparing for their next test. Parents are not far behind, I have seen many parents take leave from their office and sit along with their children while he/she is studying. Some of the parents care too much for their children and continuously keep following it up with them for completion of course curriculum. Some such parent even extend support to their children in finishing up with their subject practical’s or assignments. Parents would getup early morning along with the children to help them in studies and won’t part till they see off them the into the examination hall!

While examination season is actually the time when the kid requires absolutely stress free atmosphere, the over indulgence of parent sometimes makes the situation further complicated. The parent has all good intentions to support their children but generally what evolves out of their sudden involvement is additional stress and irritation to the children.
“All study and no play makes Jack a dull guy” – we tend to forget this knowingly. While the examination days when the student needs to concentrates better on the learning process they are not allowed to play or turn on the music. In the guise of studies there is an atmosphere of gloom & panic at home. Students are not exposed to such restrictions, extra attention and it finally distracts them.

Competition is tough and peer pressure is already very high for the student; under such situation the otherwise dormant parent makes a mistake to suddenly start over discussing the syllabus with their children. Parent does not realize that their emotional outburst invariably affect their children directly. The child is not really prepared to take on the fresh set of expectations. With so much of hi definition emotions & complex stress at home, every individual in the house needs to support the examinee by taking proper care of his or her own emotions on their own. Child’s emotional need should be allocated the highest priority and parents should not allow their emotional state to disturb their child’s routine. When a parent gets into the trap of emotional examination stress, the child is likely to experience one or more of the following symptoms: disappointment & lack of confidence, apathy to study & appear for examinations, unable to learn because of memory lapse, heath disorders like headache, fever, irritable bowl, nervousness & temptation to end life etc.

Parents I suggest you to please relax & not over react at this juncture when the student is on the verge of examinations. Behave very normal and let the child follow the normal course of his day routine. Be like a genie & a guide post for your student. My prescription is be affectionate and never make the child uncomfortable with over-attention. A dose of zappi ( hug ) an hour would work wonders.

As the final countdown for the examinations starts for the students here are a few more suggestions for the parents to de-stress their children :
• Try to have least one meal with the family and spend some light moments with children.
• If the student does not perform well in one test allow him to forget about it and plan for the next paper. Ruminating over the failure is never fruitful.
• Apart from examinations, discuss about other interests and hobbies of your child. This will help him / her to relax.
• Do not set fresh examination rules for your child, examination timetable should be made well in advance. “Revision timetable” should be decided only by the student. However the parent could always assist the child in coming up with a routine, if the child so desires.
• Take care of the child’s nutrition & health.
• Sometimes children are not able to cope up with their social network (friends and internet sites), you can help the student to shield these pressures.
• Be a good listener, never react without understanding the complete story from your child. It may just be that the child is reacting out of some situation but actually addressing a different stress.
• Motivate the child, he/she may not show but could be disheartened within. Help your child with positive thoughts.
• Last but not the least, Parent should consult a counselor if the child is experiencing alarming stress or behaving abnormally.

Parenting is a very responsible art. Parenting decision should be made in mutual consultation by mother and father. As a parent you are best positioned to understand the aptitude and ability of your child. Accordingly ensure that the child goes through the process of examination freely and smoothly. My dear parents, do not just preach but also teach your child to be positive about examinations because this exam is not the end of the journey. Life is much more beyond these examinations.

1. सादा जीवन, उच्च विचार: उसके जीने का ढंग बड़ा सरल था. पुराने और मैले कपड़े, बढ़ी हुई दाढ़ी, महीनों से जंग खाते दांत और पहाड़ों पर खानाबदोश जीवन. जैसे मध्यकालीन भारत का फकीर हो. जीवन में अपने लक्ष्य की ओर इतना समर्पित कि ऐशो-आराम और विलासिता के लिए एक पल की भी फुर्सत नहीं. और विचारों में उत्कृष्टता के क्या कहने! ‘जो डर गया, सो मर गया’ जैसे संवादों से उसने जीवन की क्षणभंगुरता पर प्रकाश डाला था.

२. दयालु प्रवृत्ति: ठाकुर ने उसे अपने हाथों से पकड़ा था. इसलिए उसने ठाकुर के सिर्फ हाथों को सज़ा दी. अगर वो चाहता तो गर्दन भी काट सकता था. पर उसके ममतापूर्ण और करुणामय ह्रदय ने उसे ऐसा करने से रोक दिया.

3. नृत्य-संगीत का शौकीन: ‘महबूबा ओये महबूबा’ गीत के समय उसके कलाकार ह्रदय का परिचय मिलता है. अन्य डाकुओं की तरह उसका ह्रदय शुष्क नहीं था. वह जीवन में नृत्य-संगीत एवंकला के महत्त्व को समझता था. बसन्ती को पकड़ने के बाद उसके मन का नृत्यप्रेमी फिर से जाग उठा था. उसने बसन्ती के अन्दर छुपी नर्तकी को एक पल में पहचान लिया था. गौरतलब यह कि कला के प्रति अपने प्रेम को अभिव्यक्त करने का वह कोई अवसर नहीं छोड़ता था.

4. अनुशासनप्रिय नायक: जब कालिया और उसके दोस्त अपने प्रोजेक्ट से नाकाम होकर लौटे तो उसने कतई ढीलाई नहीं बरती. अनुशासन के प्रति अपने अगाध समर्पण को दर्शाते हुए उसने उन्हें तुरंत सज़ा दी.

5. हास्य-रस का प्रेमी: उसमें गज़ब का सेन्स ऑफ ह्यूमर था. कालिया और उसके दो दोस्तों को मारने से पहले उसने उन तीनों को खूब हंसाया था. ताकि वो हंसते-हंसते दुनिया को अलविदा कह सकें. वह आधुनिक युग का ‘लाफिंग बुद्धा’ था.

6. नारी के प्रति सम्मान: बसन्ती जैसी सुन्दर नारी का अपहरण करने के बाद उसने उससे एक नृत्य का निवेदन किया. आज-कल का खलनायक होता तो शायद कुछ और करता.

7. भिक्षुक जीवन: उसने हिन्दू धर्म और महात्मा बुद्ध द्वारा दिखाए गए भिक्षुक जीवन के रास्ते को अपनाया था. रामपुर और अन्य गाँवों से उसे जो भी सूखा-कच्चा अनाज मिलता था, वो उसी से अपनी गुजर-बसर करता था. सोना, चांदी, बिरयानी या चिकन मलाई टिक्का की उसने कभी इच्छा ज़ाहिर नहीं की.

8. सामाजिक कार्य: डकैती के पेशे के अलावा वो छोटे बच्चों को सुलाने का भी काम करता था. सैकड़ों माताएं उसका नाम लेती थीं ताकि बच्चे बिना कलह किए सो जाएं. सरकार ने उसपर 50,000 रुपयों का इनाम घोषित कर रखा था. उस युग में ‘कौन बनेगा करोड़पति’ ना होने के बावजूद लोगों को रातों-रात अमीर बनाने का गब्बर का यह सच्चा प्रयास था.

9. महानायकों का निर्माता: अगर गब्बर नहीं होता तो जय और व??रू जैसे लुच्चे-लफंगे छोटी-मोटी चोरियां करते हुए स्वर्ग सिधार जाते. पर यह गब्बर के व्यक्तित्व का प्रताप था कि उन लफंगों में भी महानायक बनने की क्षमता जागी.

Winners sit upright.

Confident people demonstrate a winning posture wherever they move. Be it on field or in office. When it is in office it becomes all the more important to keep a winners body language. It’s time to review – How do you sit & which chair you sit in?

There is a huge variety of office chairs available in the business mart but which of those is the most appropriate chair? The best chair for you is the one which makes you feel confident and keeps you healthy. Think & review: what is the chair that you use to sit in your office? Definitely the kind of chair you sit on in your office contributes a lot towards your productivity, success and happiness. You should be using the best quality of chair to sit on in your office hours. The best quality of chair does not mean the most costly chair. Cost does not necessarily have a direct relationship with quality.

Rotating chairs should be avoided in office until unless the nature of job demands for it specifically. In case a rotating chair is must, the feature should be used very selectively and never in public appearance. It looks very odd & disgusting when you have guests sitting in front of you and your chair gyrates! It is also important that we do not use thickly cushioned and luxurious comfort seats in our office. Luxury in sitting feature should occasionally be used at work. If need be it could be designed in the form of a separate sofa or couch in the visitor’s area. When at work it makes sense to sit straight and alert. This helps one to focus on business. The function of the right chair is akin to that of the soldiers wait belt, it keeps the soldier alert and energetic till such time he is on the field!

A good chair to sit in the office has to do with dimensions. It should go proportionate with the table that you are using, your height and the available chair space for your cubicle. Preferably one should use an upright chair in the office because an upright chair ensures that you have a straightened up spine all the time you are on the chair. Neurology experts confirm that a straight spine supports the efficient working of the nervous system which in turn delivers faster synthesis and analysis of information in the brain. This is very important for better decision making.

Well if the chair you use is straight back and upright, it is all the more important to ensure that your sitting posture is in coherence with the chair back. Your hips should be touching the deepest end within the seat. It is also must that the level of your knees should not be above the plain level of the chair seat. Mostly the chairs available in the market come with an adjustment lever which can be used to align the height as per need.

Most of the office chairs have a screen based working now a days. Now that you have the right sitting angle, next important point to be noted is the computer screen. If one spends most of the office time gazing data on the screen the wrong chair setting can make you sick & inefficient! It should be ensured that the chair height is such that your eye level is straight in front of the screen and not at any extreme angle. Like wise if you are using a mouse it should not be of a huge size. A mouse fitting in the palm grip and just below the level of your ankle on the table is the best fit. Anti glare screens and / or eye glasses should be handy when you work on computers. Do ensure you have enough light (preferably sunlight) coming from the back side of your chair. This helps to keep strain away from your eyes.

Specially if you have sedentary job style, it is all the more important to manage your sitting time in the office. There are various diseases associated with such a work style say for example obesity, stress, blood pressure, pain in joints & bones etc. It is advisable that when you have such a work nature, you should avail frequent breaks to make some leg movements. While designing the office layout one should always plan in such a way that the photocopier, the coffee vending machine, the fresh rooms are strategically located at a distance from your sitting area. In case you do not have the luxury to alter the sitting place on your own, do not worry – there are readymade solutions for you aswell. There are various knee & wrist movement exercises which you can perform even while sitting on your chair. I know of a HR head in a company who uses his mobile alarm as a tool to remind him to stretch up and do exercise every twenty minutes.
Small alterations can sometimes give us differentiating results! Chair is one such aspect which can deliver an efficiency edge to you at work. If you think you are not settled into the right chair in your office it’s time to change your chair and if you think you are in the right chair, just get going!

आज बसंत पंचमी है ,माता सरस्वती की पूजा और आराधना का पर्व | |बसंत पंचमी के पर्व को मनाने का एक कारण बसंत पंचमी के दिन सरस्वती जयंती का होना भी बताया जाता है। कहते हैं कि देवी सरस्वती बसंत पंचमी के दिन ब्रह्मा के मानस से अवतीर्ण हुई थीं। बसंत के फूल, चंद्रमा व हिम तुषार जैसा उनका रंग था।

बसंत पंचमी के दिन जगह-जगह माँ शारदा की पूजा-अर्चना की जाती है। माँ सरस्वती की कृपा से प्राप्त ज्ञान व कला के समावेश से मनुष्य जीवन में सुख व सौभाग्य प्राप्त होता है। माघ शुक्ल पंचमी को सबसे पहले श्रीकृष्ण ने देवी सरस्वती का पूजन किया था, तब से सरस्वती पूजन का प्रचलन बसंत पंचमी के दिन से मनाने की परंपरा चली आ रही है।

सरस्वती ने अपने चातुर्य से देवों को राक्षसराज कुंभकर्ण से कैसे बचाया, इसकी एक मनोरम कथा वाल्मिकी रामायण के उत्तरकांड में आती है। कहते हैं देवी वर प्राप्त करने के लिए कुंभकर्ण ने दस हजार वर्षों तक गोवर्ण में घोर तपस्या की। जब ब्रह्मा वर देने को तैयार हुए तो देवों ने कहा कि यह राक्षस पहले से ही है, वर पाने के बाद तो और भी उन्मत्त हो जाएगा तब ब्रह्मा ने सरस्वती का स्मरण किया।

सरस्वती राक्षस की जीभ पर सवार हुईं। सरस्वती के प्रभाव से कुंभकर्ण ने ब्रह्मा से कहा- ‘स्वप्न वर्षाव्यनेकानि। देव देव ममाप्सिनम।’ यानी मैं कई वर्षों तक सोता रहूँ, यही मेरी इच्छा है। इस तरह देवों को बचाने के लिए सरस्वती और भी पूज्य हो गईं। हमारी भारतचीय परंपरा में शिक्षा मुहूर्त के लिए इस दिन को श्रेष्ठतम माना गया है। इस दिन छोटे बच्चों को माँ सरस्वती की पूजा करके अक्षर ज्ञान कराया जाता है।

इस दिन सौंदर्य के अलावा ज्ञान और कला की देवी सरस्वती की पूजा का विधान अकारण नहीं है। इस समय प्रकृति के साथ मनुष्य भी शीत की ठिठुरन से मुक्त होता है। यह मुक्ति उसमें उत्साह का संचार करती है और वह साधना की ओर प्रवृत्त होता है। उसकी रचनात्मक शक्ति जागती है और वह सृजन में लग जाता है। बसंत पंचमी के दिन घर पर माता सरस्वती की के साथ ही पुस्तकों, कलम और कापियों की भी पूजा की जाती है। घर में रखे हुए धार्मिक ग्रंथों की पूजा भी बसंत पंचमी के दिन की जाती है। परम-पिता माता सरस्वती के साथ वेदों में निवास करते हैं अत: इस दिन वेदों की भी पूजा की जाती है। संगीत के विद्यार्थी घर में रखे हुए वाद्य यंत्रों की पूजा करते हैं। पूजा में माँ सरस्वती को पीला और धानी रंग का वस्त्र भेंट किया जाता है। इस दिन प्रसाद के रूप बुन्दियाँ, बेर, मूंग की दाल चढ़ाई जाती है। माता सरस्वती को ब्रह्मा की पुत्री भी माना गया है। जो छात्र संगीत एवं किसी कला का ज्ञान प्राप्त करना चाहते हैं उनके लिए माघ शुक्ल पंचमी यानी बसंत पंचमी बहुत ही शुभ मुहूर्त होता है।
परीक्षा के समय में हर छात्र चाहता है कि वह परीक्षा में उत्तीर्ण हो बल्कि उसकी दिली ख्वाहिश होती है कि वह अच्दे नंबरों से परीक्षा उत्तीर्ण करें । कई छात्रों की समस्या होती है कि कड़ी मेहनत के बावजूद उन्हें पाठ याद नहीं रह पाता, वे जवाब भूल जाते हैं । छात्रों को अच्छी सफलता के लिए खूब पढ़-लिखकर ज्ञान व विद्या की देवी सरस्वती की आराधना करनी चाहिए ।—-Varsha Varwandkar ,Career Psychologist ,www.aglakadam.com .Raipur
